2015 was a landmark year in Sustainable Development for many reasons. Not only was it the year that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted, but it also marked the end of UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2015). An important outcome of the Decade’s documents was that “education for sustainable development (ESD) should not be equated with environmental education (EE)” because sustainable development reorients EE by putting it in a “broader context that considers social and cultural factors and social-political issues, such as equality, poverty and quality of life.”
Keeping in mind the underlying yet important distinction between ESD and EE, SDSN and the SDG Academy have chosen to partner with the International Conference on Sustainability Education, to further deliberate upon various facets of sustainability education. This first-of-its-kind conference will be held on 9 -10 September, 2019 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. It aims to understand ESD, EE, and the more recently-developed climate change education (CCE) holistically, and explore new ideas and best practices from across the globe that can then be tailored to the South Asian region.
The SDG Academy will also host a 90-minute interactive workshop to explore Innovative ways to teach the SDGs. The workshop shall include an activity that emphasizes the interlinkages within the SDGs and outlines the challenges faced by educators from a pedagogical perspective. Attendees of the workshop will also delve into the role of technology in learning, teaching, and enabling innovation in ESD. SDG Academy’s Director and President of the SDSN Association, Chandrika Bahadur, will be a speaker in the plenary session alongside other eminent dignitaries representing the UN, government, and international and regional universities.
To participate in this conference, you are required to register here or get in touch at [email protected].
