The meeting drew attention to the role of indigenous peoples in implementing the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, and highlighted the link between protecting indigenous languages and safeguarding traditional knowledge. In addition to forwarding three decisions on the future work of the Forum to the ECOSOC for endorsement, the session adopted nine reports focusing on key Forum sub-themes. In outcomes related to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Forum expresses its grave concerns about the situation of indigenous human rights defenders who continue to be harassed, criminalized, prosecuted or even killed.
