LA Galaxy Foundation Hosts Grand View Boulevard Elementary School Students as Part of Protect the Pitch Sustainability Program

AEG’s LA Galaxy Foundation recently hosted 40 students from Grand View Boulevard Elementary School in Los Angeles as part of its Protect the Pitch Field Trip Series at Dignity Health Sports Park on March 21, 2019.

The students were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium including the locker room, press box and main field in addition to the Galaxy Garden, the stadium’s on-site garden and greenhouse which provides fresh produce for the venue. LA Galaxy staff instructed students how to plant cucumbers, onions and cilantro in pots which the students took home.

Following planting in the garden, students then enjoyed a cooking class in the stadium’s American Express Stadium Club, led by the Garden School Foundation, an organization that provides in-depth garden-based education to Title I schools.

Protect the Pitch, is the LA Galaxy’s environmental sustainability initiative that focusses on reducing the environmental impact of LA Galaxy games and practices, as well as supporting environmental projects in the surrounding community and inspiring fans to help create healthier, more sustainable communities. Since the Protect the Pitch Field Trip Series launched in 2017, the LA Galaxy has hosted more than 500 students from schools in the greater Los Angeles area.
