The ‘Policy Dialogue on Blue Economy and Climate Change in the Context of Sustainable Development’ will discuss the current threats to the blue economy arising from climate change and environmental challenges, which pose serious risks to the viability, sustainability and economic value of the ocean economy. The meeting will also discuss conditions that will support the successful development of the blue economy and increase climate resilience, and review measures that will enable coastal and small island developing States (SIDS) to cope effectively, creatively and sustainably with environmental changes and mitigate impacts and threats to marine and coastal resources.

The policy dialogue will bring together high-level officials from Angola, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles and South Africa, and representatives of the East African Community (EAC), Southern African Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretariats. Representatives from other UN agencies, the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), civil society organizations (CSOs), the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), academia, research institutions, the private sector, professional organizations and from other UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) divisions will be invited to participate in the dialogue.
